Happy Mother’s Day!

My mommy’s the bestest mommy ever, but Willow’s pretty great, too.

Mom, i thought of you ‘cause we sang a song about eaglesCollapse )

Today’s sermon was on the story of Lot’s wife. Jenny read a Quaker poem that includes a line like “It was easy for one whose eyes had always been turned heavenward not to look back” and talks about Lot’s wife being attached to the women who helped her through childbirth and so on. Later Jenny called Lot’s wife post-transformation a “a monument of petrified tears,” not sure if she was quoting something or not.

“A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
-John 13:34-35

Today we sang a Latin American hymn, and poor though my Spanish is, i am always interested in how things get translated.

The hymn ends:

Recibe mi canto
Mezclado con llanto
Y mi corazon

Essentially: receive my song, mixed with weeping, and my heart.

Wanna know how the English translation ends?

In joy I am singing
My gratitude bringing
An offering to Thee.

doyle_sb4 isn’t the only person to love this week’s episode, and comments on her entry include some quality fanwank about the apparent hetting up at the endCollapse )

So, i was looking on Fandango to see what movies are playing, and the synopsis for 13 Going on 30 is
On the eve of her 13th birthday, all Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner) wants is to be pretty and popular. After a humiliating experience with the coolest kids in school, Jenna makes a desperate wish for a new life. Miraculously her wish comes true, but with one catch...she's only five days away from her 30th birthday.
WTF? ‘Cause being 30 is so horrible, right? I mean, i get that a 12 year old doesn’t particularly wanna be 30, but damn, to have the wisdom, life experience, and self-confidence that one has at that age while getting to skip the messiness of acquiring all that, sounds rather appealing to me. But that’s just me.

Then i read the NYTimes’ "The New Teen Movies: No More Miss Nice Girl" (Stephanie Zacharek). My first thought was “Does anyone who suffered through high school need to suffer through it again in theatres?” sorta spoilers for both movies hereCollapse )

I had forgotten how many previews there are before a movie.

The Chronicles of Riddick = the Borg/The Matrix, and Judi Dench is in it, why?

The Day After Tomorrow looks like its entire purpose is to be terrifying. I mean, disaster movies are usually about averting said disaster, no? But i don’t really see how you can *fix* the Ice Age etc. anniesj’s hosting a ficathon where you write the characters of your choice in that scenario. Fics due the day the movie opens: May 28.

Who thought it would be a good idea to make The Stepford Wives again? Though points to Nicole Kidman for not looking particularly like Nicole Kidman. I tend to dislike watching movies and being fully cognizant of who the actors are whom i am watching.

I so recognized Julia Stiles in The Bourne Supremacy. The trailer actually makes me interested to see The Bourne Identity.

Also, i hear ABC is airing a movie of A Wrinkle in Time tomorrow night. *cries*
