"I think of flying down into a sea of pens and feathers..."

Emma is contagious. I seem to never want to go to bed anymore.

And it's not like i'm doing any of my interesting and productive work anymore tonight even; i'm just wandering LJ.

However, i was telling Emma earlier that i am so going to grow up and be That Girl Professor who posts "Dear LiveJournal: help me with my syllabus" (because i am already That Student) and lo, what did i find while trawling LJ tonight? Homosexual Desire in Shakespeare's England.

And pulling that up on Amazon also got me Queering the Renaissance, Homosexuality in Renaissance England (which i actually randomly came across at Trinity Library when i was in Oxford), and Figuring Sex Between Men from Shakespeare to Rochester, just for starters.

And i searched the library and yes, Smith owns Homosexual Desire in Shakespeare's England (i stopped myself for looking for the other ones), and even has Subject headings: "Homosexuality and literature -- England -- History -- 16th century" and "Homosexuality and literature -- England -- History -- 17th century"

This and Emma's Victorian porn Sexualities books are totally going to constitute my j-term. I've been anxious for the j-term course listings to go up, but really, who needs institutionalized classes when one has a library and a geek-complex?

Okay, bed now.

P.S.

Yeah, so i keep getting up to jot down more things in case i forget them when i sleep, and i came up with a working title for my UPenn writing sample: "Sacrifice and Chosen-ness from the Israelites to Sunnydale: The Aqedah, Jesus Christ, and Buffy Summers" *twirls*

The Values-Vote Myth
By DAVID BROOKS

Every election year, we in the commentariat come up with a story line to explain the result, and the story line has to have two features. First, it has to be completely wrong. Second, it has to reassure liberals that they are morally superior to the people who just defeated them.

In past years, the story line has involved Angry White Males, or Willie Horton-bashing racists. This year, the official story is that throngs of homophobic, Red America values-voters surged to the polls to put George Bush over the top.

This theory certainly flatters liberals, and it is certainly wrong.

Here are the facts. As Andrew Kohut of the Pew Research Center points out, there was no disproportionate surge in the evangelical vote this year. Evangelicals made up the same share of the electorate this year as they did in 2000. There was no increase in the percentage of voters who are pro-life. Sixteen percent of voters said abortions should be illegal in all circumstances. There was no increase in the percentage of voters who say they pray daily.

"if there is something else beyond, he isn't scared because it's bound to be less boring than today"

So, my Shakespeare paper's due in 2 days and i finally start working on it and then i decide that actually i wanna change my topic -- to one focusing on the one play we've done so far that i really don't like. Yeah, i'm weird. But Jaques as commentator just feels much more interesting to spend 5-8 pages on than perceptions of fool/folly in King Lear. [And i even have a witty title: "But What If You Don’t Like It?: The Role of Jaques in As You Like It" /dork]

[Sidenote: I never noticed before that this song includes the line "She was into S&M and Bible studies."]

Dear Self: Write your Shakespeare paper!

I finished my Spike/Dawn fic, but now i’m working on my Giles/Cordelia fic again, so i get to add to that “one line from each WIP you’re actually working on” meme:

= Giles had poured himself a scotch, deciding it was never too early for alcohol when women were involved, and sunk into the couch.

idyll updated Subtile Pairings! *glee* (It’s a Buffy/Angel-verse rare pairing archive.) Mine is no longer the only Kate fic up there (yay!) though really, people, where is all the other Kate/Lilah? And mine is the only Riley/Forrest? Craziness. That Lilah/Files and Records exists proves that Lilah is the Little Black Dress of Fandom (i.e., she looks good on anyone).

P.S. Suggestions of adjectives to describe Oz's frame?
