Blah blah blah Inklings class. (Lewis is at least more palatable than Chesterton.) <3 Zia. Work today has been so much less insane than recent days. (I have time to putz on LJ. Need i say more?) Stacey stopped by my desk earlier just to say hi 'cause she hadn't talked to me in a while. <3 I have finally decided that i do quite like her haircut. ('Cause really, you all care about my opinion on this matter.)
I feel like there was a lot more... for lack of a better word, awareness, about Self-Injury Awareness Day last year -- with fox1013
being linked to by every third LJer and every other LJer posting the colorbar (which i don't seem to be able to find a link to now).Last year
my school had a myths vs. facts panel which i was unfortunately unable to go to, but i didn't see anything this year. I want to, like, *do* something, but i don't know what.
It's interesting seeing all the comments on entries, of people saying they didn't realize how prevalent it was or it had never made sense to them until they read a particular person's story and so on. I think maybe that's an important first step, of just raising awareness about the issue (and the day, after all, is named for awareness). I'm a big proponent of the whole "being a witness with your life" thing -- helping to change people's minds about Christians/pagans/pro-lifers/pro-choicer
s/queers/polyamorous folk/whatever by living your life and being honest about who you are, so that people see that one can fit Adjective X and also be a good person. I think the same thing holds true for self-injury, depression, eating disorders, whatever -- showing people that not everyone who fits one of those categories also fits Stereotype Z, and also to help people realize that these things are closer to home than they might think, that it affects people they love.
This still doesn't particularly help me with my desire to *do* something -- not that i have any sort of free time anyhow
