nice is different than good

"how sick of me must you be by now"

I'm with musesfool on the self-indulgent story challenge. Write what makes you happy; and preferably write it well. Also: crackfic gets too broadly defined nowadays mayhap.

However, this challenge does almost tempt me to actually write the most recent cracked-out idea I've had; and also brings back the recurrent temptation to actually post all the fic ideas I'm working on to do a "So what do you want me to write?" poll, but that carries the double problem of (a) people responding and my contrary self promptly not wanting to write that at all and (b) no one responding and me getting mopey. I am trying to remind myself that I need to just keep writing (because I know -- like from experience and everything -- that that is so necessary for me to get any better at this) but it is hard, yo, and I am le suck. And the stories do make me happy; they are just difficult.

I checked the Blogger conference mainpage today and it looks more like just presentations of papers, so I think I will be lazy and not ask for the day off. I've been feeling lethargic this week, though, so I don't feel bad about not voluntering to proctor exams either.

I think I'm going to see Rebecca Gilman's The Sweetest Swing in Baseball on Friday. (And student discount? Rawk. My Harvard ID totally lets me pretend to be a student.) I got an e-mail from them today: 25th Anniversary season (i.e. 2006-2007) announced, including 5/7 plays. They are performing Persephone! I know I haven't made writeups yet, but suffice it to say this playwright makes a habit of creating stage directions that will be a bitch for directors. They're doing Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard Jan. 5 - Feb. 4, 2007; any interest, Emma? (I forget which Russian writers you like).

Gee, do we think maybe if I went to bed now I could actually get some reading done on the train rather than passing out like whoa?
