"Pre-Filer" - The Inside, 1.03

We open in brightness, as opposed to the previous week’s episode which opened in darkness. (Also: inside the office as opposed to out at the crime scene.) Symbolism: discuss.

Once More With Feeling shout-out = giggle

[The wife = the runaway nun from Wonderfalls!]

Ms. Nichols’ acting felt really poor at the beginning. And i’m beginning to tire of her one-note character -- superduper profiler + damaged goods (okay, two notes).

I was reminded of Sharon Shinn’s Archangel (which i just recently read), of the tension between justice and mercy, of Gabriel and Rachel.

It also raises interesting issues about what’s a punishable crime, and what should be. And of course ThoughtCrimeProblematics now has me thinking of “Minority Report” -- the Philip K. Dick short story -- which mostly deals with other problematics, but there is still the basic issue that the people hadn’t committed any crimes yet. (Though i’m not convinced that killing dogs shouldn’t be a crime.) I was frustrated at the end that they just let Comack go, didn’t recommend therapy or anything. I mean, i know sexual predators are incredibly difficult to rehabilitate, but isn’t it worth some effort?

You can’t change what happened to you. But that urge for vengeance. Dude, where are all the good Joss-verse meta people? I am so inarticulate.
