burning like matchsticks in the face of the darkness

when faced with my demons I clothe them and feed them

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Gather the people, break bread, and tell stories.

Test everything. Hold on to the good.

version: growing up [April 22, 2008]

I'm a twentysomething queer vegetarian Protestant female (libertarian?) currently living in Somerville [as of July 26, 2008] Medford (Massachusetts) working full-time at a local Institution of Higher Learning in an administrative faculty support position.

I'm not sure What I Want To Do With My Life TM but am currently fairly happy at my job and spend most of the rest of my time in fandom* and church (assorted Protestant spaces). I'm also developing an interest in economics/negotiation/etc. (though I'm totally not cut out for business school).

*The open canon series I followed during the 2007-2008 season were (in alphabetical order): Astonishing X-Men, Buffy: Season 8 comic, CSI (original - Las Vegas), Heroes, How I Met Your Mother. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Without a Trace

Fandom and church stuff is mostly unlocked, but work stuff (and yeah, a lot of what I post is just mundane anecdotes) is mostly locked (including retroactively) as of April 16, 2008.

Anyone is welcome to friend me and/or comment on any entry. I make no promises about friending you back (I often fall behind in reading my current flist, even filtered to people only) but I am likely to respond to your comment. I welcome disagreement so long as it's not positioned as an attack.

Why is the possibility of "passing" so insistently viewed as a great privilege ... and not understood as a terrible degradation and denial?
-Evelyn Torton Beck, Nice Jewish Girls

i've not learned
the acceptable way of saying
you fascinate me
i've not even learned
how to say i like you
without frightening people

sometimes i see things
that aren't really there
like warmth and kindness
when people are mean
but sometimes i see things
like fear and want to soothe it
or fatigue and want to share it
or love and want to receive it
